As the Accounting Manager, you will lead Council’s accounting function, ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and security of financial information and systems. You will oversee all accounting functions, implement robust financial policies and controls, and optimise operational efficiency. Your leadership includes developing Council budgets, monitoring financial performance, and managing treasury operations.
You will prepare financial reports, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and act as a key liaison with auditors. Supporting the CFO, you will align financial strategies with Council goals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across departments to enhance financial management capabilities.

The salary for this position will commence between $106,186 and $124,925 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.

The preferred candidate will have:
- Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Management Accounting with a relevant tertiary qualification, membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA classification), and a full NZ Driver Licence.
- Financial and Legislative Knowledge: Proficiency in financial and accounting systems, advanced Excel, and Power BI, with strong knowledge of local government planning cycles, reporting practices, and relevant sections of the Local Government Act and Rating Act.
- Leadership and Communication Skills: Proven ability to lead a team, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including preparing and presenting financial reports and statutory returns.
- Strategic and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with experience in developing and monitoring Council budgets, managing treasury operations, and aligning financial strategies and policies with Council goals.
