Recently I came into the Pathology Lab with a stool motion as We had been to Phuket for a 2 week holiday. I became very ill and could not stop vomitting. On my return I went and saw Dr Coulter and he advised I may have giardia and gave me a speciman bottle.
I have had 4 bowel surgeries in the last three years as they cannot find an internal bleed I have needed tranfusions and infusions here and there. I also come into the lad of and on roughly every month for current blood tests. So when I bought my speciman in to the lab wrapped in paper towels, and left into the top basket with the prescription in a sealed glad bag I couldn't believe it when they have just thrown it out. I saw that it says name etc needs to be on the bottle but when you are very nosious the last thing you want to do is write on a bottle with a stool in it. After all I don't write on the bloods that you take off me you do that also. So I personally don't see the difference you/me writing on it. You could of phoned for me to come back to do it and I was home the next two days still sick and nobody rang and we have an answer phone. People don't bring prescriptions in lightly and trust that we will soon find the results out very soon. Instead I was still sick, had more anti biotics and am now bleedin from the bowel so thanks that person that couldn't just for once go that extra mile and ring me to go back in or to write on the bottle yourself. You must love your job but I'm not impressed by it.
