It takes only about 40 minutes from Central Auckland and when you arrive you'll be spoilt for choice of food, wine, art, and crafts. A sheltered climate and well-draining soil make the area ideal for growing grapes and Clevedon has been written up by wine journos as one of New Zealand's burgeoning wine trails. The enchanting Ness Valley alone has four vineyards. Make sure you call in at Rannach Vineyard and sample its delicately fruity Merlot which we warmly recommend. Tastings are free.
